• Details:  An absolutely gorgeous decorative plate, worthy of admiration. It is Hand-Painted, (brush strokes are clearly visible) with a floral pattern consisting of large pink and smaller white chrysanthemums surrounded by leaves in varying shades of green.  The background is very interesting, it is primarily white with the right lightly pink, the bottom dark green and the left side has a subtle blue.  The border has a very pretty swirl design and a thin gold rim.  We understand this was a series of floral plates called "Louise".  The plate is stamped on the back: with the J&C logo and the name "Louise" Bavaria".  It is anywhere from 98 to 123 years old, a true treasure and in excellent condition!  Great gift for Mother's Day!

J&C (M Jaeger & Co.), can trace its history back to 1872 when it was founded by Fritz Thomas and M.  Jager as Porzellanfabrik Jaeger, Thomas & Co.  Originally only decorating already made pieces, they eventually started making their own porcelain like coffee and tea sets, dinnerware and giftware.  In 1898 after some disagreements, Mr. Thomas left to open his own company (Porzellanfabrik Thomas & Ens which coincidentally became a subsidiary of Rosenthal). Jaeger continued without Thomas as J&C (M. Jaeger & Co) and even expanded the company and gained contracts with US companies.  In 1945, after WWII, they returned to primarily doing business in the German market.  In 1979 the company was sold to the Sebring company in Bari, Italy and they changed the name to "Jaeger Porzellan GMBH".  Unfortunately it was not well run and they closed in 1986.
